Frequently Asked Questions
·
What are the Emergency
Phones in the classrooms used for?
In the event of an emergency you may use
these phones to contact emergency services by dialing 911 or you can
contact Campus Security by dialing 6911 (Instructions for when to call
911 vs. 6911 are posted by each phone). Other than 911, these phones are
not capable of making calls off campus.
·
If there is a disaster
should I call 911 for information?
After a disaster there will be many
calls to police departments and fire departments by individuals trying
to get information. The frustration of not being able to reach these
agencies on regular phone lines will result in people calling 911.
Please remember that 911 should be used only for life and death
emergencies. It is also a good idea to keep the regular phone
numbers of your local law enforcement and fire agencies handy just in
case you are not able to get through on 911. A good resource for
up-to-date information is the broadcast news media. Remember, if you are
without electricity, your car radio may be a good option.
·
How can I contact
Campus Security if I am not near a classroom emergency phone?
If you have a cell phone you may call
575-6351. There are also emergency call boxes located in the parking
lots and in each elevator. A “Call Box” sign signifies the locations of
the call boxes in the parking lots. Both the call boxes in the parking
lots and in the elevators do not require that you speak in order for
Security to know your location. In the event that a call comes in, a
Security Officer will immediately be dispatched to the location from
which the call was made.
·
Does the college
provide an Escort Service?
Yes, campus security
officers are available during evening hours to escort students and
staff to their cars. On the East campus security escorts are stationed
in front of and on the side of Founders Hall, in front of the Library
and the Science Building. For escort information regarding West campus
and requests call 575-6351.
